Spirit Animal

She galloped on the wings of destiny…….

Hello friends, sharing a work in progress from my Shades of White online painting class by Ivy Newport. I am just loving everything about this class. I am learning new techniques such as encaustic painting and much more. I highly recommend it.

The horse in this piece emerged on its own so I followed my intuition and painted with the flow of the spirit guide. I cant wait to see how it progresses. This piece is called Horses on the Horizon. There are meant to be multiple horses along the horizon line. I love how this winged horse is the spirit guide of the horses that will be below.

Enjoy the rest of the long weekend. Thank you MLK for your contributions to humanity.

Angel of Whispers….

Hello my friends.

I wanted to share with you my first face! This is my “Angel of Whispers”. She is a work in progress from lesson 1 in my Sprit Wings art class. I love using the Sennelier oil pastels that were used to paint her face. They are so soft and velvety. Just like butter! I cant wait for lesson two to see how she progresses.

Would love to hear how everyone else likes using oil pastels. I tried using them again to make a butterfly on a mixed media canvas but they didn’t work as well for me as the face. I only have a few colors though. I cant wait to get a complete set in the wood case!

My “Angel of Whispers” is a gentle soul with a lot of wisdom behind those kind eyes. She has been nudging me to take steps towards a fulfilling career and life that makes my heart sing. If you were to paint an angel what kind of angel would you make and why? Please comment below. Would love to hear from you.

Leap of Faith

I have always had an inclination to make art. For more years than I can remember I have had internal nudges urging me to take art classes. It always seemed like I didn’t have time in my schedule with work, school, caring for my son, etc. Yet no matter how busy my life appeared to be the nudges never went away. In fact they became stronger and stronger.

I have always enjoyed being creative and dabbling in multiple creative projects throughout the years with my family. My mom and I spent countless hours making painted molded candy, Christmas ornaments and much more. I grew up watching both of my grandfathers express themselves creatively via several different mediums such as stained glass, wood and paint. My grandmother sewed and made beautiful needlepoint and I even had an aunt who was a very talented painter.

Being the sole provider for my family has made making time to follow my hearts whispers challenging. I have learned that these whispers and nudges can no longer be ignored as they are there for a very important reason. I have decided that it is these internal nudges that in fact lead us to the life we are meant to live. They lead us to our soul purpose, fulfill our dreams of a life of joy and are truly the answers to our prays.

This April I was finally able to dive into an art class thanks to the magic of the online forum. I am so grateful that such talented artists like Kelly Rae Roberts share their craft now in online courses. I have been creating nonstop since and am so grateful.

With that being said I am officially taking a leap of faith towards living a creative life. One that feeds my soul, makes my heart sing, and brings joy to me and all those around me. It is with faith that this post is my first post from my official website.

I hope you continue to follow me on my journey as I post about art, life and how art continues to help me heal my heart and live my life purpose. I hope everyone continues to live the life of their dreams with full faith that it is possible.

Continue to have faith my friends. Feel it, love it, live it. What leaps of faith will you be taking in your life today? Please share with us in the comment section. Let us leap together.

Secret Garden

Its still hot here in the desert. I really don’t mind the heat. But I do mind how it keeps me from partaking in a weekly activity that brings me back to center and fuels my soul…… weekly trips to the local botanical garden.

For the last year or two I have been going to the garden one to two times weekly as much as possible. I realized this summer just how much it balances me. Its a form of meditation and self care ritual that I really need. I am so anxious for it to cool down so I can start going again.

I didn’t plan to make this piece pictured above at all. Perhaps it was my higher self dreaming of the beautiful flowers and tranquil space. I started collaging little squares of paper and before I knew it a little house began to form and then the beautiful tree and sky.  What I really love about this piece is the angel cloud in the sky. I didn’t realize it was there until I was completely finished, making it even more special!

Come fall, if you cant find me, I will be in my secret garden.

Competing with Myself

I recently entered my first art competition. A bold move since I have only been making art for four months and my only training has been one online course. I believe we are all artists no matter what our personal stories.

Long story short ,I misread the time of submission deadline and missed it by thirty minutes. Here in Arizona we never change our time so time zones can be a bit confusing. I thought I had until 5pm when actually the submission deadline was 9Am. This I realized at 9:30 AM.

Honestly I feel very blessed that I was able to finish a piece to be submitted. I just started teaching my first face to face Biology class exactly at the same time that we got our assignment for the contest. Trying to navigate a new class in a new format was a tad stressful. I normally teach online and its normally a different class altogether. So although I am disappointed, I am very proud.

I didn’t really expect to win with all the amazing and talented artists and seasoned illustrators but I was really hoping that the judges would see something different in my work and put me through to the next round to see what I would do next.

Thank you for sharing my work with me. I am looking forward to next years competition already. Please comment below if you have a recommendation for other art competitions I may be able to enter. Happy Sunday.
